Reviewing Your Character and Intellectual Life
We are coming to the end of the second week from the Lifebook program. On this call, we are reviewing the topics from this week. Your Character Shapes Your Life and Emotional Life: Creating Peace and Joy. My experience through the first two weeks has been positive. The program is inspiring, insightful and useful.
General Advice to Do it Right
Start the day with morning affirmations, meditation, journaling, and some movement. This could be 10 minutes or a full hour. Set up your space, candles, incense, gentle music and whatever else will help you feel clean and centered. Other people like to wake up and get straight to work, it all depends on what makes you feel better. Morning ritual is going to look different for different people.
Another great strategy is to prepare the night before to wake up energized and focused. It’s about the mindset we get into when we are going to bed. During some periods of your life, you may choose to wake up at 4 am every morning, or maybe you like to be up around 8 am. It all depends on your life, purpose, vision, needs, cycles, and intentions. Just find your rhythm and understand it may change from time to time according to variable circumstances.
There is no shortcut to self-mastery. It requires commitment, attention, and patience. We are built for the universe we are in, our bodies are meant to adapt, improve and thrive. We need to practice and continue moving forward. Remember the things that work, focus on little improvements. Remember, the obstacles are the way, look deep into resistance, let yourself go into the dark places and do what is scary.
Remember, nobody holds you back without your permission. Do not surround yourself with toxic people. You can’t let people derail you from your self-actualization, this is your job, to be, and make your life be the best it can be. You have to know what behavior you tolerate and what behavior you don’t. At the end of the day, this is all about setting boundaries, choose who you want to be with and how. Do not get upset with how people are, this is only a problem if you allow them to derail you.
Reviewing My Character and Emotional Life Category
We know it’s impossible to be happy all the time, emotions, and life, are cyclical. Shit happens. We must have a happy and positive attitude, this will prepare us to deal with the dark times in light. Buddhism and other religions point to the truth that suffering is inevitable. We can not avoid struggles and challenges, we live in a toxic world. We need to work towards balance and improvement, one day at a time.
Happiness takes discipline to achieve and attain. We must maximize the up cycles and minimize the down cycles to experience as much happiness as possible. The mindset we set up is key. We must consciously choose how we perceive the information we get from the universe. When something negative happens, it’s our responsibility to reframe these to feel better. To get out of a funk, first, we must remember that we have control of our life, our character, and our emotional state. Self-mastery comes through practice, paying attention and taking action.
Developing Character Traits and Controlling Emotions
Emotions always come up, getting in command of them is a lifelong process. There are hundreds of strategies, to get out of an emotional state, define what state you want to be in and do what will make you feel better. There is always something you can do in the moment, breath and movement are always available, meditation, walking, affirmations, positive thoughts, gratitude can always be within reach. Emotion follows motion, to feel powerful, get up and move your body. Create an upper spiral, set goals, don’t let anything derail you from that. Practice turns virtues into habits. Do small things consistently and they will build up.
As we grow, we need to be able to rely on ourselves. Spend every day sharpening your skills, practice over the years adds up to a different person in a different life a few years down the road. To build patience, you have to consciously work on it, practice, chose patience. The focus is essential. Deferred gratification is essential, our vision and purpose must be in the front side of our awareness. You have to believe that discipline will pay off, the long term purpose must be the goal and objective of your actions.
Changing habits is a struggle, most people can’t sustain a new habit for more than a few days. Personal development program needs to change your daily behavior, goals must change the action we take daily. You need to implement the information and insights you are receiving. We first need to think about what we want, then focus on changing daily habits to achieve those goals. Allow yourself to change the way you live.
To eliminate procrastination, come back to your purpose, your mission, and vision in life. If you don’t do something, its because you don’t want it bad enough. Think in the present moment, its the only thing we really have. Make the best possible choices to create the best possible life. You can create good action, non-action, and bad action. Balance the work and accomplishment of worthy goals, while enjoying what you have and staying grateful. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
There is also a need for balance between control and letting things go. Find rythm in your life, between being on and being off, understand the power of allowing. Dance with the universe, focus on yourself, work hard with passion and remember the universe is happy to help us achieve our goals. Let the universe come in with its own gifts,
